The Blue and Gold Macaw

Description

The Blue and Gold Macaw is a bird that has a bright blue back, tail feathers, and a yellow breast and it's scientific name is "Ara ararauna". It also weighs on average 2 pounds and has a 3-4 foot wingspan and the macaw can solve problems, mimic human speech and they bond strongly with human caretakers when they're kept as pets. It's behavior is that the macaw communicates by screeching and using loud squaks, and the macaw's diet is nuts, seeds, berries, and leaves. The Blue & Gold Macaw can live up to 35 years in the wild and up to 112 years in human care.

Habitat

The Blue and Gold Macaw lives in rainforests in the northern South America, basically near the equator and on the savanna.

Conservation Status

The Blue and Gold Macaw is not either endangered or threatened on a global scale, however, there are many concerns of the Blue and Gold Macaw.

  Logging, agriculture, and urban development contribute to the loss of nesting and feeding areas.

  In some regions, wild populations have been reduced due to trapping for illegal sale.


• 3. Local Population Declines
  In certain countries or regions, the Blue and Gold Macaws have become locally rare or extirpated due to hunting, trade, and habitat destruction.

Why I Chose This Animal

The reason why I chose this animal is because I saw the Blue and Gold Macaw in a game called "Blooket". Although I didn't see the Blue and Gold Macaw in the zoo, the game "Blooket" motivated me to choose that animal.
